Diversity Committee

Who we are:

  • We are the first board or commission in City Hall created with the goal of uplifting the diverse populations of Fall River and promoting easy access for ALL residents to get involved with the City of Fall River.

What does “diversity” mean to us?

  • Diversity means many things. Our goal is to bring together residents of Fall River who have different backgrounds and perspectives. This can be because of:
    • Religion
    • Race
    • Income
    • Gender
    • Sexuality
    • Education
    • …and so much more!

What we do:

  • Celebrating: We want to celebrate the unique groups that call Fall River home. In the future, we hope to hold ceremonies and events for holidays or cultural milestones. We want to promote the diverse businesses and local leaders that make Fall River great.
  • Listening: We want to help Fall River thrive by adapting to the constantly changing status of diversity in Fall River and understanding what Fall River’s diverse populations need. Our goal is to be a place where people know they will be heard and their input is valued.
  • Doing: We want to bridge gaps and solve problems. We will advise City officials, agencies and departments on how to serve all Fall River residents. The Diversity Committee is dedicated to ensuring that all kinds of people have equal access to City Government and programs.

Our current projects:

  • We put out a needs assessment survey to inform our efforts moving forward.
  • We are using social media to celebrate Black History Month and Chinese/Vietnamese New Year.
  • We are advising the Fall River Arts & Culture committee to ensure that diverse voices are included in the Fall River Arts & Culture plan.
  • We are working with the Fall River Police Department to support a diverse incoming class for their cadet program.
  • We are working to support access to the Covid-19 vaccine for all residents.
