Office of Veterans Affairs 508-324-2436

If you are a veteran who served on active duty, other than for training, you could be eligible for temporary financial and/or medical benefits with the Veterans’ Benefits Department in the city or town in which you reside.

Veterans’ Benefits is a financial aid office for needy veterans and their dependents who are out of work due to illness or injury or who have been laid off from their jobs and are waiting for unemployment benefits, workers compensation, social security or other benefits.

If you are a resident of Fall River and think you may be eligible for veterans’ benefits, bring your discharge form DD 214 or separation papers to our office in Government Center and make an appointment to apply for benefits.

Our office can also help you with applying for federal benefits such as service connected disability pension for an injury that was incurred while still on active duty or a non-service connected pension if you are found to be otherwise totally disabled.

Other types of benefits may include annuities for those who are found to be 100% service connected disabled or a gold star parent, wife or widow of a 100% service connected veteran.

Also available are applications for bonuses for WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Persian Gulf veterans between the dates of August 2, 1990--April 11, 1991. The Gulf War help line is 1-800-749-8387.

There are applications for grave markers, replacement of lost medals as shown on your separation papers and forms to aid you in correcting any errors on your discharge. The toll free number for grave headstones or markers is 1-800-697-6947. The number for the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA is 1-508-563-7113. The number for the Mass Memorial Cemeteries in Agawam and Winchendon, MA is 1-617-727-3578 Ext. 108/100

You may meet with a representative from the Veterans Administration Office on the morning of the first Wednesday of each month from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary, the office will see clients on a first come, first served basis. Should you require help, it is available to fill out forms relating to the federal benefits offered to veterans and their families.

If you are not a resident of Fall River, you will be offered the same state benefits in your own city or town. Just contact your local city or town hall and ask to speak to the Veterans’ Benefits Agent. The State of Massachusetts, Chapter 115, reaches to all corners of the Commonwealth. Our veterans deserve the best that we have to offer.
