Workers' Compensation

Due to the city being a self-insured municipality, all Workers’ Compensation claims filed by a city worker, except fire and police personnel, are handled by the Corporation Counsel.  This includes Workers’ Compensation claims filed at the Department of Industrial Accidents. 

During the Workers’ Compensation process attorneys follow the following steps:

  • Review medical records
  • File necessary forms
  • Validate the nature of the work related injury
  • Ensure employees are paid their correct weekly compensation
  • Request hearings when it appears that an employee may be able to return to work
