The City of Fall River is a self-insured municipal corporation, with the Law Department known as its Office of the Corporation Counsel. The department consists of three attorneys, a legal assistant and a workers’ compensation clerk.

The department represents the City in litigation cases involving:

• Slips and falls
• Pothole claims
• Automobile accidents involving a City vehicle
• Property damage claims
• Personal injury claims
• Civil rights violations  

The department also reviews contracts between vendors and city departments to ensure that proper procedures are followed and executed between the parties and handles workers’ compensation matters and handles Freedom of Information requests.
