Department Functions:

Administration: Handles all the administrative work for all divisions of the Health Department including payroll, accounts payable, issuing licenses, distributing vaccines and issues burial permits.

Food and Milk: Inspect restaurants and establishments that sell food to the public. Issues sanitary certificates.

The Division of Public Health Nurses provides immunizations and tuberculin testing for school age children and adults. Lead testing is available for pre-schoolers. Immunization clinics are held on Tuesdays and Fridays, tuberculin testing is offered only on Tuesdays. Clinic hours are 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The TB Prevention and Control Program is managed under the supervision of Dr. Mansharamani with clinics held at HEALTHfirst Family Care Center.

Contagion Management: Follow-up and case management is conducted on all reported contagious diseases.

Medical Reserve Corps (MRC): Planning and development of a citizen volunteer group whose members would assist the community in the event of an emergency and help with local public health needs throughout the year.

Sanitary: Performs perk tests, Title V inspections, licenses massage, body piercing establishments, tattoo, tanning establishments, hotels/motels, night soil trucks, funeral homes, semi public pools, ice rinks and inspects property for animal licenses, follows up on animal bites reported to the department. Investigates complaints.

Weights and Measures: Seals scales for markets and scanners at check outs. Seals gasoline pumps and other devices for measurements.

TO ALL PERSONS HAVING OR USING WEIGHING OR MEASURING DEVICES IN FALL RIVER, ALL individuals, partnerships, associations, trusts or corporations using weighing or measuring devices for the purpose of buying or selling goods, wares or merchandise for public weighing, or for hire or reward doing business or having places of business located in this FALL RIVER, Are hereby notified to bring them in to the Department of Weights and Measures to be:

TESTED - ADJUSTED - SEALED - CONDEMNED
by the Inspector - Sealer, or Deputy of the Department of Weights and Measures. The testing, adjusting, sealing and condemning of weighing and measuring devices will be performed on the following specified dates and times:
